Security Bollards And Their Overall Effectiveness
The main thing that people ask when they are looking at
security bollards is whether or not they are effective. The reason for this is
that the bollards may look rather small compared to a fence or a gate. People
wonder if they will really be up to the task of keeping vehicles off of the
property. As you will see, the bollards are actually very effective, especially
for their small size, which is why they are so widely used.
It all starts with their durability. They are planted deep in the concrete, and they are made of reinforced steel. They are not like cones and other devices that are just set on top of the concrete. The steel pipe that you see on the surface is really only about two-thirds of the whole device. Because of this, they cannot easily be removed from their position. In fact, a team with a jackhammer would have to be called in for hours of work just to remove a single one.
On top of that, you just have to look at the way that security bollards impact cars. Even though they may be spaced a few feet apart, they are still close enough together that even small vehicles will not fit through. If a car strikes them, they will destroy the front end of the car, where it is the most fragile. If a tall vehicle strikes them, the bollards will likely push up below the undercarriage, flipping the vehicle on its side.
